Each oil tanker’s STS operations plan shall be approved by the Administration. The STS operations plan shall be written in the working language of the ship. Ship Wreck Removal Permit (SWRP)

For removal of identified Ship wrecks

 

Nairobi Convention 2007

 

  1. Reporting wrecks: A master and operator of a ship flying Nigerian flag is obliged to report the Administration without delay when that ship has been involved in a maritime casualty resulting in a wreck.
  1. The report shall provide relevant information necessary to determine if the wreck poses a hazard. Such information includes:
    • The precise location of the wreck;
    • The type, size and construction of the wreck;
    • The nature of the damage to, and the condition of the wreck;
    • The nature and quantity of the cargo, in particular any hazardous and noxious substances; and
    • The amount and types of oil, including bunker oil and lubricating oil on board
  2. Registered owner shall remove a wreck determined to constitute hazard under the following conditions:
    • Application letter for wreck removal permit from the owner of the vessel.
    • Provide evidence of insurance or other financial security to cover liability
    • Submission of Wreck Removal Plan to be approved by the Agency
    • Evidence of Safety and Pollution Prevention measures in place. These should include but not limited to;
    • Daily safety briefing prior to commencement of work.
    • Compulsory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. Safety Goggles, Safety Boots, Life-Jackets, Hand Gloves etc.
    • Fire Fighting Equipment
    • First Aid Apparatus
    • A Waste management plan
    • Spill response plan, etc.
